What Is Trademark Renewal?
Renewal extends the protection of a registered trademark for a further ten-year term. A registered trademark is protected for ten years from its filing date. The renewal request is made within the six months before expiry. If that window is missed, renewal is still possible within six months after expiry on payment of an additional fee.

Once the right has lapsed you may file afresh for the same sign, but it is a new application. The priority of the original filing date is lost, and applications filed by third parties in the meantime may now stand in your way.
Points to Watch
- If your address or title in the register is out of date, official notices may not reach you
- Renewal covers the existing list of goods and services; the scope cannot be widened
- Classes you no longer use can be dropped through a partial renewal
- If the mark has been assigned, the renewal duty passes to the new owner
- New product groups require a separate application
